Desk Research

First, I did some online research on consumers who mainly prefer relaxation spas and massages. Not many spa salons use a membership app, so the value of what I get from the research is really high.

My key findings:

- Consumers received average of 3.5 massages in the past 12 month
- The most common reasons for getting a massage were health or wellness or stress related 
- The number of men and women receiving a massage is 50:50
- Women with children are more likely to have a massage than those without children
- People with higher household incomes are more likely to have a massage
- The most common way to find a massage therapist/salon is through a friend, followed by the internet and social media

User Interview and Requirements Analysis

As well as desk research, I took great care to conduct high quality interviews for 5 people in order to gain valuable information for UX/UI design. And based on desk research and user interviews, I created the user personas and journey maps.

Ideation

My prototype design began with simple sketches, documenting thoughts and ideas on paper quickly. From there I moved to Figma and created first the Lo-fi wireframe.

The key findings by Usability test

Next, the the Lo-fi wireframe and Hi-fi mockup tested by 5 users each time. From this, I gained valuable feedback and implemented findings to create the best user experience.

- Some parts of the text are too small to catch the eye
- Would be nice to have a special offer during the booking process, e.g. points for choosing local payment
- Would be nice to have a profile icon visible at all times so that the User feel involved and know that they are logged in
- Should the product link and booking link on the under menu were combined into one
- The UI was well received by both men and women with the image of a clean and sophisticated spa salon

Based on this valuable feedback, I have brushed up the final prototype as follows.

Reflection

Considering the cost effectiveness of using the app, the number of spa salons that can use it may be limited. However, the fact that the people who are not my stakeholders have used the membership app and have said that it will increase the frequency of their visits is a big selling point. I feel that such an app will be one of the future differentiators for shops in all sectors from their competitors.

In today's busy world of goods and information, it was interesting to hear the voices of those who make choices every day, and their choices are filled with their own accumulated thoughts. I would like to continue to study and evolve as a designer who can create essentially good things.
